RUBY PRESS CASE STUDY
A Three-Month Press Launch Retrospective
Client: Silver Brothers Spirits Company
Location: Old Chatham, NY (Hudson Valley)
Engagement window: Case study for the first three months (May 2026 – August 2026) of an ongoing engagement
Overview
Silver Brothers is a New York State farm distillery located in the Hudson Valley that focuses on creating terroir-driven whiskeys from estate-grown grain and select New York State farms. They opened their doors on June 6, 2026, and within three months, the brand moved from a regional opening announcement to a nationally recognized name in American whiskey, generating over 26 million cumulative media impressions across national outlets, trade press, regional news, and organic social amplification.
The Challenge
Launching a new distillery in the Hudson Valley — a region saturated with craft beverage openings — meant Silver Brothers needed to break through on two fronts simultaneously:
• Regional relevance: Establish the brand as a must-visit destination
• Category credibility: Earn recognition from consumer and spirits-industry trade press, where reputation is built on craft, sourcing, and production process — not just hospitality appeal.
A slow trickle of local coverage would not be enough to build a durable brand. The strategy required sequencing announcements, tastings, and product news to sustain a press narrative well beyond opening week.
Strategy
• Pre-launch seeding (May 2026): Trade announcements (The Spirits Business, One More Dram) and regional previews (Chronogram, Capital Regional Living) built anticipation ahead of the June 6 opening.
• Opening event activation (June, 2026): A high-visibility launch event drove earned social coverage from food, lifestyle, and hospitality influencers, alongside same-week regional press.
• Sustained news hooks (June–August 2026): Rather than let coverage taper after opening, the team supplied ongoing story hooks — a Friend of the Farmer supper, a Dinner with the Distillers event, the focus New York-made spirits, and the first single-barrel release (Barrel No. 8) — each generating a fresh wave of press.
• National trade positioning: Dedicated outreach to spirits-industry authorities (Whisky Advocate, Alcohol Professor, Drinks International) built long-term category credibility alongside consumer-facing coverage.

National Breakthrough
Two placements drove the majority of total reach and marked the brand’s arrival on the national stage:
• Newsbreak (13.2M reach) — “Farm Distillery Roots Rye Whiskey in NY’s Hudson Valley”
• Food & Wine (8.9M reach) — featured among “10 New Whiskey Drops” celebrating America’s 250th anniversary
For a distillery three months into operation, inclusion in a national outlet like Food & Wine alongside established whiskey brands is a strong signal of category credibility, not just hospitality buzz.
Sustained Regional Relevance
The region’s largest newspaper, The Times Union, covered Silver Brothers twice within two months: once for the tasting room debut (1.19M reach) and again for the Friend of the Farmer supper (1.05M reach), demonstrating the brand earned recurring editorial interest rather than a single opening mention.
Additional regional coverage included multiple features in Chronogram (opening, spring beverage guide, festival roundup), two placements in Hudson Valley Magazine (print and digital), plus Rural Intelligence, Edible Hudson Valley, Trixie’s List, and Capital Region Living. Local dailies The Troy Record and The Saratogian also picked up the New York-made spirits-focused story.
Trade Press Credibility
Perhaps the most valuable coverage for long-term brand equity came from spirits-industry authorities:
• Whisky Advocate ran a dedicated feature: “Silver Brothers: A New Grain-to-Glass Whiskey Maker in New York’s Hudson River Valley”
• The Spirits Business (157.8K reach) covered the opening announcement
• Alcohol Professor included the brand in its July American Whiskey Report
• One More Dram covered both the opening and the first single-barrel release
This is coverage that can’t be secured through hospitality appeal alone — it reflects recognition from the category’s most discerning press.
Earned Social Amplification
The June opening event generated substantial organic reach from food and lifestyle influencers, including:
• @thecottagejournal — 451K followers
• @lideylikes — 147K followers
• @angrybaker — 98K followers
• @andnorth — 59K followers
• @bourbonplus — 33K followers
Engagement continued well past opening week, including follow-up posts praising the product directly (e.g., a rye whiskey named “the best he’s had”).
Takeaway
In just the first three months of engagement, Silver Brothers moved from a promising regional opening to a nationally-covered whiskey brand — landing simultaneously in mass-reach consumer outlets (Food & Wine, Newsbreak), the region’s paper of record (Times Union), and the spirits industry’s most respected trade press (Whisky Advocate, The Spirits Business). That combination — national visibility, sustained regional relevance, and category-specific credibility — is the foundation for a durable brand, not just a successful launch.
